Summary of Job Duties:
The Principal Investigator is seeking a part-time (50% FTE) Student Employee to work on research projects that focus on identifying barriers to smoking cessation among adults who smoke menthol cigarettes. The Student Employee will gain experience conducting research with adults who smoke and experience in health disparities, mobile health (m Health), and behavioral research. The Student Employee will assist the Principal Investigator/Project Leader on all aspects of the projects. The Student Employees will report to the Principal Investigator/Project Leader.

Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at UAMS.
  • Completed undergraduate degree and Master’s level courses in public health or related field.
  • Experience in health, public health; psychology, digital health, computer science, marketing research or related field.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and car transportation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Use of Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders.

  • Prior experience in working on surveys or focus groups/qualitative interviews is a bonus

Preferred Qualifications
  • MPH or completion of course requirements.
  • Experience in assisting with IRB applications and reporting and/or CLARA.
  • Experience in use of SPSS, MPlus, SAS, R, STATA, or other statistical packages.
  • Experience in use of REDCap.
  • Experience in conducting or analyzing qualitative data.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in research involving human subjects and secondary data analysis.
  • Responsible for participant recruitment, screening, scheduling, visits, retention, and informed consent/assent; and the coordination and collection of qualitative interviews, quantitative (surveys, m Health surveys), and biospecimen/biological samples data.
  • Assist with the analysis, handling, storage, and shipping of qualitative, quantitative, and biospecimen data.
  • Establish and maintain accurate participant recruitment, screening, scheduling, contact, retention, and incentive records; keep track of, monitor, enter and summarize study data in REDCap and other databases; assist with mail.
  • Communicate with Principal Investigator/ Project Leader on study progress.
  • Synthesize data and work with the team to write reports.
  • Assist with outreach and communication to partners.
  • Complete standard paperwork on recruitment/enrollment progress.
  • Assist with the development of professional presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Participate in recruitment, screening, scheduling, visits, and retention. Enter and maintain recruitment, screening, and participant contact records.
  • Obtain informed consent/assent and assist with conducting interviews, note-taking, survey dissemination and administration, intervention development, and collection, storage, and shipment of biological samples. Data collection will occur across the state, including rural areas.
  • Participate in regular project meetings, trainings, provide updates on progress, and communicate regularly with study team on recruitment and data collection progress. Work with study team to problem-solve issues, develop appropriate solutions, and assist study team when needed.
  • Work with study team to develop and implement secure systems for assuring the quality, confidentiality, and safety of the data and work with data manager to maintain appropriate study logs, records, and databases.
  • Work with the team to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, write papers, and prepare presentations.
  • Work with Investigator Team to develop regular reports of study progress and preliminary data.
  • Perform other duties may be assigned.

Salary Information:
$15.00/hour
