We are seeking people who want to contribute to a significant water reform program that aims to respond to the impacts of climate change, support community and industry needs, and improve access to water for First Nations people.
The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
The Position
The Senior Adviser Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property supports the implementation and administration of the MDBA’s Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) Policy and First Nations Data Management Framework. The ICIP Senior advisor is responsible for liaising with internal teams to assist with ICIP related administration where needed, creating, and maintaining secure data environments, assisting in ICIP engagement with First Nations people and organisations as well as Policy and procedural review.
The ICIP Senior Adviser works with other MDBA First Nations teams, Commonwealth and State’s where required, to ensure consistency in approach, strategic alignment, and collaboration on the delivery and implementation of the Basin Plan.
Your key responsibilities in this role are to
- Support the development and implementation of the MDBA ICIP Policy.
- Work with the Basin Plan Review (BPR) specialist teams across multiple program types to effectively contribute to ensuring ICIP is held securely and utilised agreed purpose under the BPR.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal ICIP Policy systems with key partners, providing appropriate advice, and managing the resolution of emerging issues.
- Drive and develop new opportunities in consultation with your team, with community and partners to ensure the ICIP Policy maintains currency.
- Support mutually beneficial relationships across Commonwealth departments and state Governments.
- Draft a range of written products, tailored to your audience that are evidence based and consider intelligence formed through engagement with the ICIP annual review committee and partners.
- Contribute to project management activities including the administration and maintenance of Internal data management systems.
- Support the internal First Nations data discovery and cataloguing activities.
