Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Director of Economic Development to oversee our business development, corporate finance, transaction structuring, and mergers and acquisitions activities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction planning and deal formation. This role is essential in evaluating proposals, developing partnerships, and ensuring all investments are financially sound and strategically aligned with our organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Economic Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement comprehensive economic development strategies aligned with the First Nation’s goals.
- Identify and evaluate new investment opportunities, business partnerships, and development proposals.
- Create and manage a robust economic development plan that includes diversification, sustainability, and long-term growth strategies.
- Financial Analysis and Due Diligence:
- Conduct thorough financial analyses, risk assessments, and due diligence on potential investments and business deals.
- Assess the financial viability, profitability, and sustainability of proposed projects.
- Prepare detailed financial models and projections to support investment decisions.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities associated with investments and provide recommendations to mitigate risks.
- Ensure all investment proposals comply with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
- Transaction Structuring:
- Design and structure investment transactions, including terms, conditions, and financial arrangements.
- Negotiate and finalize agreements to ensure favorable terms and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Mergers and Acquisitions:
- Lead and manage mergers and acquisitions processes, including valuation, negotiation, and integration of acquired entities.
- Oversee the sale and acquisition of businesses, ensuring strategic alignment and financial soundness.
- Business Development Management:
- Engage with a wide range of businesses to foster strategic partnerships and joint ventures.
- Develop and manage initiatives to support the growth and development of new economic opportunities and existing enterprises.
- Facilitate relationships with potential investors, partners, and stakeholders to promote economic growth and opportunities within the community.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with industry partners, investors, government agencies, and community stakeholders to advance economic development projects.
- Represent the First Nation in negotiations and discussions with potential investors and business partners.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with community goals and objectives.
- Project Management:
- Oversee the implementation of economic development projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Monitor and manage the performance of investment portfolios and business ventures.
- Ensure that all projects adhere to established timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.
- Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA) are advantageous.
- Experience:
- Extensive experience in economic development, business development management, corporate finance, transaction structuring, and mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or in a similar context is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong financial analysis and modeling skills.
- Expertise in legal and regulatory compliance related to investments and business deals.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven track record of successful investment deals, business partnerships, and economic development projects.
- Attributes:
- Strategic thinker, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to community values.
- Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
