Job Description: Cost Controller

Position title: Sandglass Cluster Cost Controller

Reports To: Financial Controller / Director of Finance/Hospitality Lead

Employment type: full-time

Place of work: Athens - Frequent travels to resorts within Greece

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Controller to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the costs across multiple properties within our hotel group. Your primary objective will be to maximize profitability by ensuring cost-efficient operations and maintaining financial discipline. You will work closely with the finance, purchasing, and operational departments to achieve the company’s financial goals.

Key responsibilities:
Cost Control & Analysis

Monitor, analyze, and control all hotel expenses to ensure they are within budgetary limits.

Conduct regular cost comparisons and identify areas for cost optimization.

Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly reports on cost variances and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures.

Analyze food, beverage, and other operational costs and prepare reports for management review.

Inventory Management

Supervise and control the hotel’s inventory of food, beverage, and operational supplies.

Conduct regular audits and spot checks on inventory levels, ensuring accurate stock management and reporting.

Collaborate with the purchasing department to ensure cost-effective procurement of goods.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasting reports for the cluster of hotels.

Provide detailed cost projections and financial models to aid management in decision-making.

Compliance & Reporting

Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and statutory regulations regarding cost management.

Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

Prepare detailed financial reports and analysis for management and stakeholders.

Cross-property Coordination

Standardize cost control procedures and best practices across all hotels within the cluster.

Train and guide operational staff across properties on cost control procedures.

Act as a liaison between the finance department and hotel management teams to ensure effective communication and implementation of cost control measures.

Operational Support

Collaborate with department heads to provide insights and advice on cost efficiency and revenue maximization.

Participate in periodic meetings to review operational performance and suggest improvements.

Support audits and financial reviews within the properties as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost control, preferably within the hospitality industry. Experience managing multiple properties is a strong advantage.

Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent knowledge of cost control, inventory management, and financial reporting

Proficient in using financial software (ERP systems) and MS Office applications, particularly Excel

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with different teams
