M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. BACKGROUND
A cornerstone of the ambitious West Kowloon Cultural District Project, M+ is Hong Kong’s new museum for visual culture encompassing twentieth and twenty-first century art, design and architecture, and moving image from Hong Kong, mainland China, Asia, and beyond. M+ is now developing a touring arm of the exhibitions programme and key positions are required to facilitate this growth.

SCOPE OF THE ROLE
An experienced and committed individual is required to manage exhibition projects which will tour regionally and internationally. The role requires a high level of autonomy and demonstrated ability to manage a touring programme. This dynamic role will work with management to develop the touring programme for M+, and lead projects through a range of touring models. The position will report to the Head, Exhibitions & Displays and will require ability to travel to oversee project delivery.

CANDIDATE QUALITIES
The ideal candidate will have experience in exhibition touring and strong ambition to implement process and develop a programme from inception. The individual should be highly organised and willing to work within a close team. The role requires a high level of discretion and demonstrated ability to reach deadlines on time and within budget.
You will be responsible for:
  • execution of the M+ touring programme by providing management and project direction for touring projects and working closely with M+ teams across all departments as required;
  • regular reporting to management of the development progress of the touring programme and budget monitoring;
  • liaising between key stakeholders such as external venues, artists and curators, international representatives and potential sponsors;
  • acting as the key communication point and project managing all aspects of the touring programme, and working closely with the touring registrar to manage logistics;
  • actively contributing to departmental meetings as required; and
  • developing agreements with the relevant stakeholders and ensuring the museum is appropriately represented and procedures are adhered to.

You should:
  • possess a recognised university degree in relevant fields such as art history, museum studies, arts administration, cultural management or equivalent;
  • possess 7-8 years of experience preferably including at least 5 years of experience leading and project managing exhibitions within a museum or gallery environment; and around 2 years of experience working on touring programmes;
  • have strong project management and team skills with the ability to work with tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks within an ever-changing environment;
  • be able to solve problems and prioritise needs in a variety of situations where immediate decisions are necessary;
  • be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word and Excel and Power Point); knowledge of Microsoft Project or equivalent software would be preferred;
  • have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in English and preferably Chinese; and
  • have a high level of discretion and the ability to escalate arising issues appropriately.
