Would you like to work in an international R&D community together with highly skilled scientists and technical specialists? We are looking for a Research Engineer for our pilot fermentation plant in Budapest.
API R&D is responsible for developing processes for antibiotics. It is organized into different departments located in Oslo, Copenhagen and Budapest with a total of about 50 employees. Our four departments are: Biotechnology Upstream Development, Biotechnology Downstream Development, Chemistry and Analytical Development.
In Biotechnology Upstream Development we are a team of 18 scientists and engineers responsible for strain and fermentation development. This includes pilot fermentation, scale-up and process implementation to Xellia’s production sites. Alongside our functional roles, we are also part of cross-functional project teams.

In Biotechnology Upstream Development we are a team of 18 scientists and engineers responsible for strain and fermentation development. This includes pilot fermentation, scale-up and process implementation to Xellia’s production sites. Alongside our functional roles, we are also part of cross-functional project teams.
Main Responsibilities
- Plan and execute experiments to develop fermentation processes
- Handle samples for further analysis
- Summarize and share results
- Document experiments in laboratory journals and batch records
- Organize and conduct maintenance of instruments and equipment
- Ensure compliance with EHS, Quality, and GMP standards in accordance with current requirements
What We Expect
- BSc in Biotechnology or equivalent
- Experience in bioprocess development of antibiotics is an advantage
- Practical knowledge of and passion for fermentation technology
- Basic skills in laboratory operations
- Strong collaboration skills
- Exceptional accuracy, reliability and efficiency
- Strong communication skills with an emphasis on openness, transparency and clear communication
- Enthusiastic about plant work, with a keen interest in equipment and software
- Fluency in Hungarian and English
- Ability to work in a shift schedule is expected
