Research Software Engineer - Bell Labs

You will be joining the System Architecture and Solution Design (SASD) lab, which is creating innovative research software solutions, cutting-edge architectures and designs, and advanced development experiences for Bell Labs Solutions Research. The lab is innovating in the way our software is created and leading the design and realization of an automated development environment. The SASD team has a global footprint with members in the US, France, Hungary and Germany and collaborates closely with a diverse set of Bell Labs researchers across the globe to create world-class technology innovations and cutting-edge software prototypes.

We are looking for passionate software developers and system engineers who love to create impactful software systems built with cutting-edge technologies. As part of our team, you will:

Design and implement advanced solutions for the Bell Labs software development environment and introduce new development methods and technologies.

Develop research prototypes, technology demonstrators and related back-end platforms including industry 4.0 services, Web3-based systems, and AI/ML applications.

Define project roadmaps and have full ownership of developed projects and services.

Continuously identify new technologies, open-source systems and industry trends to improve our software eco-system.

Collaborate with Bell Labs researchers, business units and incubation teams.

You have:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications, or related disciplines and 2+ years of relevant work experience.

Deep understanding of modern software engineering principles, cloud-native designs, CI/CD toolchains, Kubernetes and key enabling software systems.

Working knowledge of full-stack cloud-native operation and application onboarding including platform configuration, containerization, and reliability engineering.

Strong communication skills and the ability to successfully work in collaborative projects.

It would be nice if you also had:

Experience in designing, realizing and managing CI/CD-related toolchains and environments.

Experience in designing software systems in one (or more) of the following areas: Industry 4.0, Io T, highly distributed clouds, and AI-based systems.
