Working as a lecturer (docent) at the Academy for Hotel & Facility (AHF) gives you this opportunity. You will teach, supervise, and develop course content and application-based materials as needed. No better place to do all this than at a specialist, small-scale institute on our sustainable and high-tech campus in the city centre of Breda.


About this job
As a lecturer in Information Management at the Academy for Hotel & Facility Management (AHF) you will be educating our bachelor's students on the process and value of acquiring data, distilling information and generating knowledge. It is key to apply these themes to the Facility Management context by using authentic cases, involving industry representatives and working with relevant information systems. Your goal is to prepare and motivate students for a future job in which information management drives operational excellence and business innovation.

You will be preparing and delivering lectures, workshops, and seminars, as well as developing course materials, such as documents, slides, and videos. You will also be setting and marking assignments, tests and exams. You will meet with students individually and work closely with colleagues involved in various activities within the academy and Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas). Moreover, you will continue developing your external network, this way contributing to student recruitment, securing placements and building relationships for future activities.
As a lecturer at BUas, you will have the opportunity to guide and support smart and highly committed young individuals on their journey to become professional critical thinkers and innovative managers in hospitality and workplace management. Your role includes providing academic advice and support to students, fostering their personal and professional development.
Please note: the Academy for Hotel & Facility Management (AHF) is looking for several new colleagues (starting now and from January 2025).
What do we offer?
  • The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of €4,361.31 and a monthly maximum of € 6,114.87 (gross amounts based on full-time employment);
  • This position is classified in scale 11 of the cao-hbo (collective labour agreement). Your official job title will be lecturer;
  • The position involves a one-year employment contract with the possibility of conversion into an indefinite employment contract;
  • Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed when you travel by public transport;
  • You will receive compensation for health insurance;
  • You will receive an end-of-year benefit of 8.3% and an annual holiday allowance of 8% in May;
  • You will also be awarded professional development hours every year and almost eleven weeks of holiday entitlements in a full-time position;
  • You will be working at our top-ranked university of applied sciences on our modern, sustainable, and high-tech campus near the city centre of Breda;
  • Moving from abroad to Breda in the Netherlands? We provide support and financial compensation in the case of relocation and settling in the Netherlands. Dutch tax authorities may offer tax reduction to applicants from abroad (which makes tax rates comparable to the UK and US).
What do we ask of you?
  • You have a relevant master’s degree or a master’s degree plus work experience in a field relevant to information management;
  • You are passionate about information management (the process side and the systems) and would like to share this passion with our students and others. You have creative and fresh ideas on how to share this information and knowledge;
  • You have sufficient depth of knowledge either through education or practice to provide learning support;
  • You are interested in managing how people retrieve/process/transform/store/etc. information within business processes;
  • You have experience and knowledge within a service management context;
  • You can initiate and shape new and existing courses in line with industry demands and changes. You have teaching experience in higher professional education or are willing to obtain a didactics certificate;
  • You are a networker who invests in relationships with the industry by attending conferences, industry fairs, and external network events to ensure industry relevance in class;
  • You will be working in an international and intercultural setting. Therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a necessity;
