Biosecurity Specialist - Terrestrial

The Opportunity
Our Environmental Delivery team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Biosecurity Specialist- Terrestrial to join the team on a 24-month fixed term, full time (37.5 hours per week), based in our busy Dunedin office.
The purpose of the role is to provide technical advice, develop programmes and projects, and lead delivery of these to enable the ORC's Environmental Implementation Team to effectively implement terrestrial biosecurity management and achieve positive outcomes for the environment.
As a Biosecurity Specialist- Terrestrial, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing specialist biosecurity advice to a wide range of stakeholders, from the Environmental Implementation team, ORC staff and ORC partners and stakeholders.
  • Analysing terrestrial biosecurity data to guide and inform programme development and implementation.
  • Developing and delivering terrestrial biosecurity related programmes and projects
  • Establishing and facilitating collaboration with external stakeholders as relevant to the role
  • Demonstrating ORC's commitment to recognise and provide for the kaitiaki responsibility Kāi Tahu has for the natural environment.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor's tertiary qualification in any of the following (or related) fields; Biosecurity, Ecology, Zoology, Biodiversity, Environmental Management
  • A current, full NZ driver's licence
  • At least three years' experience in a role that is related to biosecurity, biodiversity, ecology or conservation/ environmental management.
  • Understanding of biosecurity, biodiversity, and natural systems in a New Zealand context, including pest management approaches
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
