Manager, Library Information & Research Services

Position Purpose To contribute to the success of staff and students by providing access to quality
resources and information services which support learning, teaching, and
research and contribute to the smooth operation of the library.

  • Close working relationship with Managers of Subject Librarians at other
campuses, Subject Librarians, the Associate University Librarian (Client
Services), the Kaihautū Māori, and other Library managers
  • Liaison with other Massey University staff, especially Centre for Educational
Transformation, Research Operations, Information Technology Services

External

Accountabilities
Information Services • Lead and manage an information service across a range of channels.
and Information • Lead and manage the provision of course-specific information skills training
Literacy for internal and distance students, both face-to-face and online, in
consultation with academic staff.
  • Oversee the provision of generic library skills and orientation programmes for
internal and distance students.
  • Ensure online learning tutorials, website content and print guides are
accurate and up to date.
Research Support • Lead and manage the provision of support and guidance to academic staff
and postgraduate research students through group and individual training

(including research consultations), assistance with bibliometrics and
publication impact measures, and other library-related research and

publishing support (e.g., bibliographic management software support)
Outreach and
  • Ensure appropriate promotion of library collections and services is

  • Promote the development of positive working relationships with academic
and professional staff.


  • Take a lead in liaising with academic staff to ensure Library collections and
services meet teaching and research needs.
  • Represent the Library, where appropriate, in the wider university
environment.
Collection
  • Contribute to the selection of appropriate library resources to support the
Development University’s teaching, learning and research within budgetary guidelines.


  • Lead and manage the development and review of collections of the
Manawatū Library in conjunction with the Manawatū Campus Librarian and


the Collections Manager.


  • Lead team members to contribute to the review and assessment of licensed
digital resources and databases.
Management
  • Lead and manage a team of suitably trained staff.

  • Establish and maintain appropriate and achievable performance standards
and measures.
  • Report and analyse data related to the performance of the section/library.
  • Ensure services are client-focused, efficient, and effective.
  • Encourage and manage innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the development of services.
  • Establish and maintain an annual business plan for the section/library.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the wider Library, through leading
and participating in policy development and implementation, meetings, and
projects.

  • Minimise risks to the health and safety of self, staff and students, and
proactively engage with senior management and staff in implementing
Massey University’s health, safety, and wellbeing policies
  • Undertake other activities as required by the Campus Librarian for the
successful operation of the library. Qualifications and Experience
A degree and professional library qualification are essential.

Experience: • Experience in leading and managing a team of staff in the provision of
quality library services.


  • Experience in the provision of information, preferably in a tertiary
education library.


  • Experience in teaching or training in information skills.
