Principal Māori Data Governance Advisor – 12-month Fixed Term/Secondment
Full time position
Location: National Office, Wellington or other location for the right person

The Ministry of Social Development Information, Security and Identity Group plays a vital role in supporting MSD's mission and values. As part of MSD's Organisational Assurance and Communications Group, they offer support and advice across Information Management, Security and Privacy domains.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Principal Māori Data Governance Advisor to join our dynamic Information Strategy and Assurance function.

What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in establishing and leading Poutiaki, our plan for engagement with technical data experts across iwi and Māori communities. You will also be responsible for fostering strong relationships with iwi and Māori communities to ensure that Tiaki, our Enterprise Information Governance framework, is inclusive of Māori values, needs, and expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and lead Poutiaki, our plan for engagement with technical data experts across iwi and Māori communities.
  • Foster strong and enduring relationships with iwi and Māori communities to ensure inclusivity within Tiaki.
  • Provide strategic advice on Māori data needs and aspirations, serving as a subject matter expert in this area.
What you'll need to succeed | Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū

To be successful in this role, you will have/be:
  • A tertiary degree level qualification and 8-10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a senior advisory or leadership role.
  • Proven record of successfully engaging with iwi and Māori communities on complex, strategic issues.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Te Ao Māori, including deep understanding of tikanga, kawa, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Substantial professional working experience with indigenous data rights frameworks and best practice approaches.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to provide tailored feedback and influence others effectively.

Salary range: $161,762.00 - $200,840.00
