What will you be doing | Ngā whainga
We're looking for a Senior Communications Advisor to support and enhance TNZ's reputation through transparent, creative, strategic communications.
You will report to our Communications Manager as part of a small but mighty New Zealand-based Corporate Communications team driving internal and external communications and government relations activity in New Zealand. The team works closely with TNZ teams across Aotearoa and offshore to maximise opportunities, manage risk and ensure alignment and consistency.
Here's a taste of what you will be doing:
- Strategic communications: Provide ‘best practice' comms advice to senior people and deliver a broad range of communications material for TNZ activities.
- Internal communications: Support our positive organisational culture through proactive, transparent, and timely communications and engagement. This includes engaging people in TNZ's strategic activities around the world.
- Media management: Help the team with proactive and reactive media engagement in New Zealand, and drive media coverage of TNZ's corporate activity and performance.
- Corporate channels: Letting stakeholders know about the work TNZ is doing. This will often involve translating complicated information into plain English. Includes producing content for the TNZ website, a monthly newsletter, and social channels.
- A tertiary level qualification in communications or journalism (or relevant experience) and 5+ years in strategic communications roles across the public and private sector. You will bring commercial nous, political awareness and an understanding of the machinery of Government.
- Outstanding relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- You express yourself clearly and succinctly verbally and in writing. You have high attention to detail.

- A good risk radar and experience managing tricky issues and problem-solving. People trust your judgement.
- Experience within an international organisation, working alongside high-performing marketing teams, and/or an understanding of the travel or tourism sector would be useful.
This is a great fixed-term opportunity helping TNZ do interesting, innovative, strategic work that contributes to ensuring tourism benefits the beautiful place we call home.
Our people are at the heart of our mahi. When you join TNZ you become part of our global whānau, a diverse, collaborative, supportive, high-performing team who have a shared purpose of enriching Aotearoa New Zealand, industry and manuhiri (visitors), and passionate about the work we do.
