Do you want to prevent crime and harm, and contribute to making New Zealand (NZ) the safest country? As an intelligence professional in the NZ Police this will be your focus every day.
Intelligence is an indispensable enabler for NZ Police that touches on every part of what we do. Annually, Police Intelligence produces approximately 50,000 products. Some are short and tactically focussed, supporting day-to-day decisions. While other intelligence products are more in-depth with a longer-term focus aiding the development of long-term operational plans and organisational strategy.
As an Intelligence Analyst you will be required to use a range of information sources, apply analytical tools and techniques to understand complex policing problems, and develop compelling, critical analysis and advice to inform prevention and enforcement. You will also start/continue your journey of learning and development as a skilled Intelligence Professional.
New Zealand Police are recruiting for multiple intelligence roles in multiple locations.
We are looking for people who are self-motivated, innovative, inquisitive, committed to excellence, resilient, and firmly focussed on enhancing decision-making within NZ Police through the provision of timely, accurate and relevant intelligence.
Key Accountabilities:
- Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime, crashes, and community reassurance
- Lead and collaborate on projects and group analysis
- Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes
- Contribute to a positive team culture and develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external)
- Work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems
- Consider and champion diversity, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all intelligence outputs.
- Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools and coach junior members of the team to develop their Intelligence tradecraft including regular peer review.

- You will be an experienced intelligence analyst
- Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information and data
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences
- Be able to manage competing priorities to deliver organisational priorities
- Demonstrate a collaborative approach to delivering team outputs
- Demonstrate the ability to work with a range of stakeholders to encourage collective effort and shared outcomes.
Roles, workgroups, and locations for Analyst positions:
Northland District - Whangarei – 1 position
Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland Intelligence Unit – Ōtāhuhu - 1 position
District Intelligence Units provide direct support to tactical and operational Police decision-making, to prevent crime and harm at the local level. These teams provide insight into the nature of crime and harm by identifying trends, and forecasting future threats, risks, and opportunities.
District Intelligence Units operate in a dynamic environment providing support to frontline policing including operations, criminal investigations, and offender management.
National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) – Tauranga – 1 position
The National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) is responsible for detecting, investigating, and prosecuting transnational and organised crime networks impacting New Zealand. The NOCG Intelligence Unit works alongside key national and international partners to identify organised criminal entities and provide analytical expertise to support the disruption, investigation, and prosecution of these groups.
Interpol – Police National Headquarters Wellington – 1 position
The New Zealand National Central Bureau (NCB) is responsible for sharing criminal information on cross border criminal investigations and provides investigative assistance between the NZ Police and the 196 INTERPOL member countries. The New Zealand NCB incorporates the EUROPOL National Unit and operational tasking for the Police Liaison Officer Network.
Intelligence Fusion Teams - Wellington – 1 position
The Intelligence Fusion Teams group provides specialist analytical capability working in multi-agency teams alongside seconded staff from partner agencies. The group provides an integrated approach to the delivery of high quality strategic and innovative work across the Gang Harm Insights Centre (GHIC), National Drug Intelligence Bureau (NDIB) and TNOC Fusion Centre.
National Intelligence Centre – Police National Headquarters Wellington – 3 positions
Workgroups include:
Analytics and Intelligence Operations Group - covers a wide range of intelligence topics, with a focus on both strategic and operational intelligence. Outputs are used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, facilitate evidence-based action and prevention, and support planning and managing major events.
The Security Intelligence and Threats Group is a specialist team which provides intelligence on national security and violent extremism.

Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
For both Constabulary & Police Employees:

- Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date or
- Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.
The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

For the district-based positions - You may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.
You may occasionally be required to work outside of set work hours and alternative locations for operational reasons.
These roles are office based within the specified location.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $102,808 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
