Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to oversee the payroll operations for our employees across Africa and Europe. This role will ensure full compliance with local payroll laws and regulations, while managing payroll-related tasks, including tax reporting and statutory filings. The Payroll Specialist will report to the Financial Controller and will be based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate with payroll service providers for the preparation and submission of payroll and statutory filings.
• Maintain and update employee payroll records, including tax and benefit deductions.
• Prepare and file payroll-related tax reports in compliance with local regulations.
• Conduct regular audits of payroll systems to ensure data integrity and legal compliance.
• Manage relationships with payroll, accounting, and benefits service providers.
• Reconcile PAYE, pensions, and other statutory payments with payroll providers.
• Handle payroll-related issues or disputes efficiently.
• Communicate payroll policies and benefits clearly to employees and management.
• Stay informed of updates to payroll laws and regulations in Africa and Europe.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in payroll management, with expertise in multiple countries.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax rules, and regulations in Africa and Europe.
• Skills: Proficiency in payroll software, Microsoft Office or Google Suite; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Problem-solving: Analytical mindset with a solid grasp of accounting, financial reporting, and tax fundamentals.
• Additional: Familiarity with equity compensation programs (e.g. Restricted Stock Units).

Preferred Experience:

• Previous experience in Big Four firms, top-tier consulting, fintech, or financial institutions is a plus.
