As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Manager to spearhead our growth efforts by bringing in new business and developing strategic partnerships.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a results-oriented Business Development Manager (BDM) to identify and acquire new business opportunities, develop strategic relationships, and drive growth in the FMCG market, particularly within the tomato paste industry. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful deal-making and a deep understanding of the South African FMCG landscape.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful deal-making and a deep understanding of the South African FMCG landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- New Business Acquisition:
- Identify, prospect, and secure new business opportunities to expand Lwani Foods' customer base in the FMCG and food manufacturing sectors.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy focused on driving revenue and market share growth.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from lead generation to deal closure, ensuring a consistent pipeline of new business.
- Partnership Development:
- Build and nurture strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including retailers, distributors, and food processors.
- Establish long-term partnerships and negotiate high-value contracts that align with the company’s growth objectives.
- Market Research & Analysis:
- Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks within the FMCG and food processing industries.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the leadership team on market positioning, product offerings, and new revenue streams.
- Sales Strategy & Execution:
- Collaborate with the CEO and sales team to create and implement sales strategies tailored to different market segments.
- Track and report on sales performance, customer acquisition metrics, and market expansion progress.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Actively engage with potential and existing clients to understand their needs, present tailored solutions, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to promote Lwani Foods and generate business leads.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the operations, production, and marketing teams to ensure alignment on new business opportunities and customer expectations.
- Assist in developing sales materials, proposals, and presentations for new clients.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role, with a strong background in the FMCG industry.
- Proven track record of securing new business deals and achieving sales targets, particularly within the food production or tomato paste industry.
- Experience in negotiating high-value contracts and building long-term client relationships.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of the South African FMCG market, with experience in food production, processing, or similar sectors.
- Existing network of industry contacts within retailers, distributors, or food manufacturers is a significant advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in CRM software (Salesforce, Hub Spot, or equivalent) and other business development tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and make strategic recommendations.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with C-level executives and decision-makers.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work independently to meet and exceed business objectives.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
- Travel:
- Willingness and ability to travel across South Africa to meet clients, attend industry events, and close deals.
- Experience working in the tomato paste or food processing sector.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (an advanced degree preferred).
