Position Purpose / Objective
The SHEQ Officer offers administrative support to the SHER Manager and the Quality Team Leader. This role contributes to the achievement of Astec’s SHE and Quality objectives by assisting with the implementation of SHEQ system requirements.

The SHEQ Officer offers administrative support to the SHER Manager and the Quality Team Leader. This role contributes to the achievement of Astec’s SHE and Quality objectives by assisting with the implementation of SHEQ system requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting with the administration of the SHEQ program.
- Uploading, reviewing, updating and maintaining of various SHEQ documentation to ensure accurate information.
- Maintain a proper filing system of SHEQ documentation in accordance with the relevant legislation and standards.
- Coordinate SHEQ meetings and take minutes.
- Maintain SHEQ Skills Matrix and ensure all licenses and certificates remain valid.
- Compiling QCPs and data books for the Quality department.
- Compiling reports for the safety Gemba walkabouts.
- Assisting the field service department in the preparation of technician files to obtain access to mining sites.
- Evaluating contractor files to ensure compliance and referring non-compliance to the SHER Manager.
- Ensuring that the SHEQ Policy and Procedure manual is maintained.
- Consolidating findings in SHE committee meetings, Occupational Hygiene surveys and internal audits.
- Closing OFI’s and NCRs on SHEQX.
- Ensuring compliance with SHEQ IMS standards.
- Assisting with IOD and near-miss investigations.
- Conduct SHEQ inductions for new hires.
- Contractor compliance management.
- Maintenance of statutory inspections and certificates.
- Creating SPRs on AX for all SHEQ departmental purchases.
- Participate in ISO14001, 45001 and 9001 internal and external audits.
- Maintain the site utility tracker.
- Drive SHEQ awareness campaigns.
- Track implementation of and close out of action plans from all occupational hygiene surveys.
- Ensure the SHE Legal Structure remains valid and up to date.
- Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.
- Diploma in Safety Management/ND in Environmental Health.
- ISO 45001, 1400 and 9001 Certificates.
- Internal Auditor Training Certificate for all 3 ISO systems.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a similar capacity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Above average written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Good administrative, organizing and time management skills.
- Result driven, with the ability to manage and analyze data.
- Must have intermediate proficiency on MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Excellent Communication skills.
- Resolve problems and deadline orientated.
- Good administrative, organizing and time management skills.
- Result driven, with the ability to manage and analyze data.
- Fluent in English.
