Job summary
The Army Foundation College (Harrogate) trains all Junior Soldiers under the age of 18 and prepares them for their subsequent Phase 2 Training - an exciting and challenging course programme, which includes military skills, education, adventure training and life skills. We employ a large work force comprising military staff, civil servants, and contractors, all working together to create an exciting and diverse work environment. This exciting role is pivotal to the welfare activities of the Army Foundation College (Harrogate) and we are looking for an enthusiastic, efficient professional to join our elite team.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide Resettlement and transitional support to Junior Soldiers discharging as Early Service Leavers, and Medical Discharges in accordance with relevant policy and directives.
- Engage with the Chain of Command to identify vulnerable Junior Soldiers and provide additional transitional support, conduct early engagement, and implement support for Early Service Leavers, including Looked After Children, Care Leavers and those Cared For by engaging with Local Authorities, parents and guardians.
- Provide advice and guidance on Early Service Leavers policy and procedures. Signpost, and refer Junior Soldiers to internal support services where required. Maintain the Early Service Leavers register, and storage of data electronically.
- Engage with Career Transition Partnership Future Horizons Advisors in support of Early Service Leavers, conduct post Early Service Leavers Brief interviews with Junior Soldiers, and make any referrals as required to Defence Transitional Services, Defence Medical Welfare Services, or any relevant support service to ensure Junior Soldiers are supported during their transition/discharge.
- Attend and provide input into health and wellbeing, welfare and safeguarding meetings and events. Assist with recording, tracking and maintaining welfare and personal sensitive data of Junior Soldiers on military data systems, Spreadsheets, and Handover Takeover folders in preparation for data transfer to receiving units.
- Assist with welfare support to Junior Soldiers on long term Sick at Home, Suspension, or awaiting discharge. Conduct home visits as directed/as required.
Person specification
- Enhanced D&BS check as part of the on-boarding process.
- NVQ L3 in Advice and Guidance Support, or equivalent qualification.
- Proficiency in IT tools, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Previous experience of working in a welfare/support type role or environment.
- NVQ L4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance, or equivalent qualification.
- Awareness of mental health issues.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

Interviews will take place at Uniacke Barracks, Harrogate within two weeks of the sift results. A minimum of 2 full working days’ notice will be provided for interviews. We endeavor to stick to these dates, but these are subject to change around business needs.
