Job summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.
51 Infantry Brigade and Headquarters (HQ) Scotland, as a Regional Point of Command (RPo C) is responsible for the Firm base and Lived Experience (L-Ex) of all British Army personnel and their families within Scotland. We are also the British Army’s connection to the Devolved Administration, the people of Scotland and the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland. Additionally, we provide staff support to General Officer Scotland (GOS) to meet the needs of the Army in Defence and make evident the utility of the British Army in Scotland (BAS), its institutions, communities and people.
The Brigade, as the enabling HQ, co-ordinates, resources and supports GOS in his engagement activities to the benefit of the BAS. In addition, and specific to Scotland, the Governor of Edinburgh Castle fulfils a ceremonial role for Edinburgh Castle, hosting and engaging VVIPs when required.
Here at Headquarters 51 Brigade and Headquarters Scotland, we are an inclusive and dedicated team, working to provide excellent support to our Military and Civilian staff.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Based in the HQ in Redford Cavalry Barracks, Edinburgh you will be the Principal Advisor to Senior Engagement Manager HQ 51 Inf Bde & HQ Scotland on Community Engagement (CE) plans and resources, digital engagement and Military Civilian Integration policy and activity within HQ 51 Inf Bde & HQ Scotland Area of Responsibility (Ao R). Liaising as necessary with military Units and external stakeholders in support of Firm Base delivery.

Main duties include:

  • Support Senior Engagement Manager, Comms and Outreach in the production of Regional Point of Command (RPo C) Engagement Plan.
  • Collaborate with RPo C Secretariat for the development of engagement contracts and sponsorship's and the provision of financial support required to deliver the RPo C engagement plan.
  • Coordinate, prepare and monitor the RPo C Engagement Annual Budgetary Cycle (ABC) forecast to inform RPo C financial planning (through the RPo C Secretariat), advising units to ensure contributions align with CE policy, principles and RPo C direction.
  • Branch lead for information management, including Engagement Share Point sites and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Create, develop and manage the delivery of a long term RPo C social media engagement plan, focused on Instagram and Facebook platforms.
  • Responsible for 1 x Engagement Electronic Procurement Card (EPC).
  • Line Manager 1 x Executive Officer

You will quickly build effective relationships with Civilian and Military staff and external stakeholders across our area of responsibility.   • Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide and receive complex, sensitive and often controversial information to stakeholders in support of decision making (particularly through business case development and implementation).
