REPORTS TO: Deputy Operations Manager
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
SALARY: £25,000 per annum
About Islington GP Federation
The Islington GP Group Limited, trading as Islington GP Federation (IGPF), is a rapidly growing organisation representing the interests of general practice in Islington. It is an established leader in the provision of new and integrated provision of healthcare, including supporting the new Primary Care Networks and developing quality improvement capabilities in general practice. Its range of services include I:HUB, community ENT, community gynaecology, practice-based pharmacists, long term condition management optimisation, proactive screening and evaluation trials, and a range of general practice support propositions.
IGPF works very closely with strategic, commissioning and provider partners, including the local clinical commissioning group, NHS England, Healthy London Partnership, Public Health, local hospitals, such as Whittington Health, the local authority, third sector organisations and patient representation groups. It plays an important role in the development of the health and care landscape across Islington, and within its North Central London (NCL) regional footprint.
The small but effective management and support structure includes local GPs, nurses, practice managers and other non-clinical staff. It has a core team of less than 50 staff, based in its Holloway office, and in total employs around 150 – the majority on a monthly, part-time basis. We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible administrator, ideally with a background in primary care.
Job Summary:
The purpose of the role is to:
● Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist the operations team primarily with the running of the Community ENT service.
● Facilitate effective communication across the broad range of stakeholders to assure the smooth-running of the services.
Job Responsibilities:
Monitor referral inboxes and process incoming referrals accordingly.
Have full understanding of EMIS Web and other administration systems (e.g. rostering and ordering software).
Manage clinic rotas using EMIS Web, including making patient bookings and dealing with patient queries appropriately.
Action follow up instructions according to GP consultation notes (i.e. discharge letters, secondary care referrals, follow-up appointments, chasing up receipt of investigation results etc)
Track, manage and order equipment and consumables stock for clinics.
Provide occasional on-site support at Community ENT sites – reception/clinician support/stock management.
Minute taking at Operational Team meetings and providing clerical assistance to Federation staff as required.
Undertaking a wide range of administrative duties which include ensuring all information is managed correctly, filed and followed up accordingly.
Have a working knowledge of all office based software and hardware, i.e. photocopier, fax, patient information system.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the Federation’s Health & Safety Policy, to include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to IGPF guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified
