Veterans Housing Scotland
Income Maximisation Officer
Edinburgh
FULL TIME
September 2, 2024
Veterans Housing Scotland has a proud history dating back to the First World War. Established as the Scottish Veterans Garden City Association (SVGCA) and the Scottish Garden City Housing Society (SGCHS), our mission was to provide homes for heroes returning from the war with disabling and life-changing injuries. Over the years, we have developed and grown, but our core mission remains the same: to provide quality, low cost rented housing and support services to veterans and their families. We are committed to ensuring that our beneficiaries can access the resources they need to lead stable, better, brighter and fulfilling lives.
The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Income Maximisation Officer to join our team. In this role, you will help our beneficiaries navigate the benefits system and manage their finances by providing comprehensive benefits and Universal Credit support. Key Responsibilities
Benefits and Universal Credit Support:
- Provide one-on-one support to beneficiaries in understanding and applying for benefits and Universal Credit.
- Conduct benefits assessments to identify entitlements and maximise income for beneficiaries.

- Conduct workshops and information sessions on benefits and Universal Credit.
- Monitor and manage rent accounts to quickly identify and address arrears.
- Develop and implement strategies to recover rent arrears, including negotiating repayment plans with tenants.
- Communicate effectively with tenants regarding rent arrears and provide support to prevent further debt.
- Oversee the rent increase process, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and effective communication with tenants.
- Maintain accurate records of rent accounts and arrears recovery actions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to benefits, Universal Credit, and housing.
- Prepare reports and provide regular updates to the CEO and senior management team.
- Collaborate with other team members and external partners to deliver holistic support to beneficiaries.
- Take part in training and professional development opportunities.
- Proven experience in benefits advice, Universal Credit support, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the benefits system and housing legislation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
