Purpose and Scope of Position
Unity College Caloundra West is a BCE P-12 ecumenical college working in partnership with the Caloundra Catholic and Caloundra Uniting Churches. The successful applicant for the position of Youth Minister will physically work in the two settings of Caloundra Catholic Parish and Unity College to foster school/parish partnerships. Strong skills in communication, collaboration and working with young people along with an eagerness to create opportunities, in which the spiritual and pastoral needs of the community can be effectively supported are essential to this role.
Key Result Areas
The youth minister will be responsible for all aspects of youth ministry within the parish with a primary focus on evangelisation and supporting and developing the leadership capabilities of our students and existing young adults. Their role will include but not be limited to:
  • Preparation for and facilitation of Junior (Years 6-8) and Senior (Years 9-12) Youth Group(s) on a weekly basis during the school term
  • An intentional approach to the training of young adult volunteers
  • Involvement at Unity College, working to develop relationships with staff and students while helping to facilitate encounters with the person of Jesus through prayer/worship opportunities across P-12, social justice opportunities, leading Youth Ministry initiatives, supporting the Certificate III Youth Ministry students and working pastorally with all students across the College.
  • Liaising with the parish evangelisation teams to assist in the development, promotion and running of faith formation programs/events
  • Supporting the religious life of the College with the guidance of the Assistant Principal Religious Education, and the Parish Priest.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants applying for the position of Youth Minister must include a cover letter addressing the following eligibility criteria:
  • Be focussed on and bring new ideas to a mission-oriented ministry by engaging in evangelisation of students, young adults and families within the local community.
  • Collaborate in the design development and facilitation of prayer, retreats, formative and liturgical experiences to deepen young people’s personal encounter with Jesus.
  • Empower students to use their gifts and talents in service of others through social action and justice activities and initiatives.
  • Currently hold or be eligible to hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card or hold current registration as Teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
  • Have formal or informal experience in working with young people in a Christian context, always exercising prudent judgement when relating to students pastorally and spiritually.
  • Act in accordance with the Student Protection Guidelines and the Staff Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Accept a fixed term role for 2 years with an annual review focussing on professional performance and goal setting.
  • Be able to schedule flexible working days and hours across the week in conversation with direct reports.

  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
