Manager - Criminal Intelligence Unit, SFCTF

  • ASIC is seeking a full time Manager - Criminal Intelligence Unit to join their Regulatory Insights & Assessments Team
  • Salary starting from $147,074 (depending on experience) plus up to 15.4% superannuation
  • Temporary (2 year) position based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra or Perth

The team
The Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) is a specialised team in the Registry and Intelligence Group responsible for ASIC's criminal intelligence to detect and assesses the threat from serious and organised crime that informs ASICs intelligence-led regulatory approach using data-driven insights.
The CIU manages relationships with many of its law enforcement and government partners to facilitate sharing of information and intelligence and participation in national and multi-jurisdictional arrangements in response to serious and organised crime.
The team is at the forefront of multi-agency collaboration to counter serious financial crime by developing and leading ASIC's intelligence contribution to the:

Registry and Intelligence Group is comprised of the following teams: Registry Operations, International, Strategic Planning & Intelligence, Regulatory Insights & Assessment, and Information & Knowledge Resource Centre.

The role

  • Managing, leading and coaching criminal intelligence analysts, motivating staff and building capability to develop a high performing team.
  • Exploring and advising on ways for ASIC to exploit criminal intelligence and develop insights to detect and understand current and emerging criminal threats that inform ASIC's strategic and enforcement priorities.
  • Supervising the assessment of criminal intelligence to identify misconduct in ASIC regulatory jurisdiction.
  • Overseeing complex intelligence projects and activities for the team, including innovating through new data driven technologies and methodologies to deliver high quality assessments.
  • Delivering written and oral criminal intelligence reports and briefings using exceptional communication skills to provide influential advice on highly complex criminal intelligence matters.
  • Managing multiple relationships across the organisation and with external agencies including ASIC's criminal intelligence contribution to taskforces to advance ASICs regulatory and enforcement outcomes.
  • Displaying strong leadership skills in managing your own and your teams' performance to deliver on ASIC's strategic priorities and the team business plan.
About you

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive professional intelligence experience.
  • Hold or ability to obtain a minimum national security clearance Negative Vetting Level 1.
  • Proven ability to lead intelligence teams to drive target development and insights that inform operational responses.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of intelligence analysis and assessment in an operational regulatory, law enforcement or national security environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present complex intelligence reports and briefings to a range of senior level audiences both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management and the ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and expectations.
  • Experience working in multi-agency or multi-jurisdictional taskforces would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of serious financial crime would be beneficial.
