Marketing Assistant - 2 Year Contract

Christel House South Africa is a non-profit school which provides no-fee scholarships to students from some of Cape Town’s most under-resourced neighbourhoods and supports them for 19 years (Grade RR to Grade 12 and five years post-matric) through character-based and career-focused education. The main criterion for admission to Christel House is not evidence of talent, but evidence of poverty. Despite facing significant challenges, our students excel. Key aspects of Christel House’s model include poverty mitigation services (e.g., transport, health care, nutritious meals and more.
In addition to Christel House SA’s core work, it also runs the Simunye (“We are One”) project, which fosters meaningful connections among youth from different ends of the wealth spectrum. As part of its expansion, Simunye 2.0 will engage 12 schools across Cape Town, facilitating regular interactions and collaborative activities.
Christel House seeks to employ a Marketing Assistant based in Ottery, Cape Town, on a two-year contract basis. The individual will report to the Marketing Lead and work closely with the Simunye Project Manager: Social Development.
Responsibilities:
Marketing: for Christel House SA and Simunye
  • Assist with executing the organisation’s broad marketing strategy including digital marketing, social media management and email marketing.
  • Assist with photo and video content (including shooting and editing).
  • Assist with all public relations, including preparing information pieces for public distribution and liaising with media across the board.
  • Assisting with the organisation’s website content and management.
  • Work closely with students, staff, alumni and sometimes parents to create content that will be used across channels and the department.
  • Assist with brand implementation for Christel House SA and Simunye.
  • Assist with general administration for the marketing function and for Simunye (e.g managing marketing stock, scheduling appointments, delivering project materials, maintaining records, and coordinating logistics).
  • Planning activities and communicating with schools, coordinators and principals on behalf of Simunye.
Qualifications and experience:
Degree in Marketing, Communications, Project Management or a related field. At least 2 years’ experience is required.
Requirements:
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable engaging with new people.
  • Professional, punctual and deadline orientated.
  • Passion for marketing and the non-profit sector.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (additional language an advantage).
  • Familiarity with social media content planning and creation and usage of social media platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and some experience in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Indesign, Premier Pro, Lightroom) would be preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is essential.
