The Role
We are recruiting a Risk Manager to join the Enterprise Risk Management department, who will lead and grow our risk function to provide smart, effective, and adapted risk guidance and oversight, regulatory horizon scanning and risk management across the Onafriq Group.
As a core member of the Enterprise Risk Management team, the Risk Manager will report to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management and work closely with relevant key stakeholders to drive and implement the enterprise risk management framework for the entities, covering all aspects of current and future business activities and in line with the Group Risk Management Framework.
We are seeking candidates with 3-5 years of experience involved in implementing and overseeing the Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSA) and ensuring relevant risk management documentation and reports, used to identify and track delivery against key risks, mitigating actions, relevant risk themes, trends, and emerging risks, are developed for business functions.
The successful candidate must be passionate about risk management, continuous process improvement and the enhancement of quality and consistency of business processes and methods, possess and have exceptional communication skills, high EQ, strong organization skills, and be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The role is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creating and maintaining a centralized repository of processes and related artifacts (e.g., procedures, templates, forms).
- Understanding end-to-end processes relevant to the business area to identify bottlenecks, risks, as well as improvement opportunities.
- Driving and implementing enterprise risk management framework for the entities, covering all aspects of current and future business activities and in line with the Group Risk Management Framework.
- Implementing Operational Risk Management Framework, including designing a relevant/proportionate risk management framework
- Drafting and rolling out risk management policies and procedure documents.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of the enterprise risk management and operational risk frameworks to ensure alignment with strategy, policies, and procedures.
- Providing ongoing guidance and oversight to entities and the Group on Enterprise and Operational Risks, including risk event monitoring and tracking, which includes ensuring that risk processes (risk assessment, identification, management, reporting & optimisation) are implemented across all the business unit levels.
- Liaising with the internal and external audit teams by providing relevant and up-to-date risk matrices and follow-up on audit findings.
- Reviewing and reporting on investigated operational loss incidents.
- Reporting key risks and management thereof to Head of ERM, as part of the governance framework.
- Ensuring relevant risk management documentation and reports, used to identify and track delivery against key risks, mitigating actions, relevant risk themes, trends, and emerging risks, are developed for business functions.
- Compiling and maintaining the Company’s risk register/incident risk log.
- Compiling and maintaining the Company’s fraud log.
- Performing assessments (privacy impact, legitimate interests, vendors, etc.) and improving assessment processes.
- Designing and implementing company-wide Business Continuity Management awareness and education program.
- Generally, uphold the values of the Company.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast-moving and complex environment.
- Experience working in fin/tech a plus.
- Experience working in emerging markets and on multiple continents, including Africa.
- ISO 27001.
- PCI DSS.
- Card Processing Knowledge would be an added advantage.
- Advanced Share Point knowledge.
- Power B.I.
- Business Intelligence Analytics and Reporting.
