Job summary
Are you looking for a hands-on IT role within the Ministry of Defence at a newly built college campus in Hampshire? Then this could be the role for you! You would be working alongside all aspects of the British Armed Forces to support training for service personnel in Supply, Distribution, Driving, Catering, Policing & Security and Personnel Administration.
The college is made up of 3 schools; Defence School of Logistics and Administration predominantly based at Worthy Down; Defence School of Policing and Security in Southwick Park; and Defence School of Transport at Leconfield. The college headquarters is also based at Worthy Down – a newly built campus in Hampshire.
This role sits within the Defence School of Logistics and Administration Communications Information Systems support team at Worthy Down, which provides a variety of critical Information Systems functions and outputs in support of all workforce staff on site.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an inclusive team working with Military and Civil Service colleagues who deliver face to face and virtual training for the college. The work is varied and requires the ability to respond quickly to situations as they arise. The position is advertised at 37 hours per week on a Monday – Friday basis to provide first line support to classroom and real working environment training on a variety of information technology and software applications
Job description
The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Identify, plan and schedule the upgrade, testing and deployment of new applications and network changes where required.
  • Ensure all on-site training networks and infrastructure remains’ technologically current, secure, well managed and documented. Including ensuring accreditation, change control, business continuity and security requirements are met.
  • Coordinate and act as the primary point of contact for the training systems, working closely with users, contracted service providers and other Ministry of Defence organisations where needed.
  • Provide expert support to the Senior Management Board and for any information technology projects, including recommendations for the adoption of new technologies.
· Deal with information technology finance plans and finance applications for the school as required. · Undertake the duties of the IT Security Officer (ITSO) for the college.
· Line management of the support team, currently 3 EO posts. · Support and visit the detached school locations where required.

  • Computer literate with sound planning and organisational skills.
Experience and Qualifications:
Essential: · Experience within information technology roles.
Desirable: ITIL V3

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
