Job summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants! Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
Field Army provides professionally trained Land Force Elements (FEs) for operations, including wider support to the Joint Force. 2 Military Intelligence Battalion is the Field Army's formation that enables the delivery of security within the Firm Base to support the Army, its personnel and their dependants in the UK and overseas Garrisons. The Security Assurance team consists of Military and Civil Service personnel specialising in security assurance and security risk management.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and work within an evolving department that is fundamental to reducing the threat posed to the military's people and assets!
Please note that the roles currently based in Donnington are due to be relocated in the future to Beacon Barracks, Stafford.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The Security Assurance Officer is the lead for security audits for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCA) establishments. The role will cover:
  • Physical Security
  • Personnel Security
  • Information Security
  • Document Security
  • Security Risk Management
  • Personal Electronic Devices (PED) Security
  • Communication Security
  • Data Protection.
As a Security Assurance Officer, you will drive the implementation of MOD and Army Security Policy, conducting Protective Security Audits (PSAs) providing ad hoc advice and mentorship for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCA) establishments within Area of Responsibility when requested, and raising issues as required.
Lead the compliance regime and governance framework for all areas of security, reporting on non-compliance/non-conformance for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations establishments within Area of Responsibility.
Deliver briefings on an adhoc basis and support the development of tailored Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Security training.
Provide guidance on compliance with the latest MOD/Army policies for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCA) establishments within Area of Responsibility.
Manage the demand for Protective Security Audits (PSAs) for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCA) establishments within Area of Responsibility.
Undertake other duties as appropriate to the grade and role as advised by the Line Manager.
Person specification
Main responsibilities include:
  • Conduct Protective Security Audits (PSAs) for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCA) establishments and produce appropriate reporting in accordance with Army Command Standing Order – The Army Policy for Audit and Inspection and - The Army Policy for the Protective Security Audit.
  • Conduct advisory visits for all Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations establishments producing appropriate reporting in accordance with the Defence Manual of Security and Resilience.
  • Deliver briefings supporting the development of tailored Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Security training.
  • Assist with audits of Military Intelligence Unit Protectively Marked material.
  • Liaise with appropriate agencies and civilian organisations in order to improve the delivery of Protective Security Audits.
You must be able to drive as extensive travel and overnight stays will be required.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
