Job summary
The Land Warfare Centre (LWC) is a complex organisation employing circa 1500 civilian and 3800 military personnel, plus numerous contactors, in multiple locations both in the UK and overseas. The Headquarters in Warminster is supported by eight operating groups that manage and run the Army schools and colleges through which over 1200 different courses are planned, designed, resourced, delivered, and evaluated every year, which deliver trained personnel with a wide range of skills from the ability to undertake their first posting to readiness for deployment.
The incumbent will work to Assistant Head Training Plans providing support and will act as the primary point of contact within Training Plans for training improvements. This will be through capturing and exploiting data driving integration between the myriad of Management Information Systems (MIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS). This will ensure the improvement of situational awareness across the LWC and highlight risk at all levels where necessary.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
This role will act as the collaborative lead on requirement setting for information exploitation projects working closely with stakeholders from within LWC and across wider Defence. The role will be the advocate for LWC interests, liaising with the digital community to share knowledge and drive forward application development. Defence has its own online learning portal, a key part of this role is to ensure that where appropriate the Army’s training requirements are able to be delivered via this platform.
This is a managerial role responsible for line management of one Civil Servant.
Person specification
- Experience of working within multi-disciplined teams and operating in commercially sensitive environments.
- Experience of creating and maintaining digital blueprint/roadmaps.
- Experience of working collaboratively with application developers and experience of translating business requirements into technical instructions for application development colleagues/suppliers.
- Experience of capturing high level business requirements by various methods (workshops, technical documentation, briefings.
- Experienced app product owner including accreditation management.
- Previous experience of managing app development/new technology.
- Experience of user-centred design and user testing to inform business priorities and realise required benefits.
- Experience of business analysis and process mapping.
- Understanding of Enterprise Architecture principles and experience using associated tools (e.g. Sparx/Archimate/Prolaborate).
- Wide understanding of digital tool exploitation opportunities within Defence and Industry partners.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
