Job Posting Details

Biosciences Central Research Facilities (Bio CRF(CWB)) is a university facility that offers vital infrastructure and technical support for research in biological sciences. We ensure that all HKUST users have equal access to advanced equipment and technologies to enhance their research. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced individual for the position of Assistant Director, who will report to the Director of Bio CRF(CWB).

The appointee will be responsible for:
  • Assisting the Director with the administration and daily operation of the facility.
  • Leading a team of technical and administrative staff to manage scientific, financial, and human resources.
  • Overseeing the implementation of innovative technology platforms, including trend monitoring, technical evaluation, funding applications, tendering, space planning, and equipment installation.
  • Coordinating the establishment of an expanded Bio CRF(CWB) to support the University’s strategic development in life science and medicine.
  • Guiding efforts to achieve internationally recognized certifications for technical services, enhancing Bio CRF (CWB) as a contract research organization.
  • Representing Bio CRF(CWB) to provide organizational and technical insights to external academic and commercial partners.
  • Gathering user feedback to advise the Director on strategic enhancements for the facility.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned by the Director.


Applicants should have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in science;
  • Over 10 years of substantial work experience in a leading role at similar central research facility;
  • A good command of English is required. Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Putonghua would be an advantage;
  • Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills; and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
