RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organization. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally.

RTÉ Operations now wishes to recruit for the position of Access Services Assistant within the Platform Services team. Platform Services forms part of the wider Platform Operations Department, the ethos of which is continuous improvement and relentless challenging of the “norm”. We want to simplify how we work, and to be restless in our approach to innovation and trying new things.

Reporting to the Platform Services Supervisor, the post-holder will be responsible for the provision and management of access services for RTÉ linear and on demand content, as well as any future platforms or services, across a range of genres. These services currently include Subtitles, Audio Description (AD) and Irish Sign Language (ISL).

RTÉ is committed to the provision of Access Services, to promote the understanding and enjoyment of content for persons who are Deaf/deaf, hard of hearing, Blind and vision impaired.

Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the daily application of high-quality access services on all RTÉ television and on demand platforms, including subtitling co-ordination and preparation in line with Coimisiún na Meán Access Rules (formerly BAI), for transmission/publication across RTÉ output
  • Ensuring Coimisiún na Meán access services targets are achieved across RTÉ services, in a cost-effective manner
  • Creation of Access Services schedule for distribution to EPG providers, print, media, internal and external stakeholders
  • Active role in future developments across both linear and on demand. Responding to external expectations and pressures, assisting in continuous review and response to rapidly changing media landscape
  • Competent in a range of channel/content management systems. Source file and media assets through a range of systems
  • Work to and meet strict deadlines with strong time management skills. Time sensitive and pressurised environment due to the continuous broadcast/publish cycle of RTÉ platforms/services
  • Project work: participating in projects and initiatives to ensure business requirements are met Be a point of contact, input data, implement new workflows, test and train
  • Building and maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with our third-party partners, communities and platforms
  • Organisation of and participation in annual meetings, EBU events etc

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • A passion for TV and broadcasting and a positive, enthusiastic approach to work and career development
  • Excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • High level of keyboard skills and computer literacy
  • Strong editorial judgement
  • Relevant experience related to broadcast, telecommunications and/or multi-media disciplines
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and to exercise good judgement under pressure
  • An agile and flexible mindset, capable of working well with multiple projects concurrently
  • A knowledge of the Irish language would be an advantage but not essential
  • Demonstrable analytic, creative, innovative and problem-solving skills
  • A champion of change and continuous improvement in technology, workflows, and self-development

This appointment will be made on an ongoing full-time contract basis at an appropriate point on the Administrative Grade 3 scale from €32,899 to €44,352 gross per annum.

This recruitment process will be in two stages. Shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a practical skills assessment.
