This is what you’re going to do
In this role, you will be responsible for the entire Customs department in the Netherlands, which includes Import Processing, Import Exceptions, Export, Transit, and Support. You will directly manage four Duty Managers, a Compliance Manager, a Consultancy & Training Manager, and a Customs Affairs Manager. Additionally, you will indirectly oversee approximately 120-130 full-time employees located at Schiphol and Breda. Your responsibilities include:

• Focus on continuous improvement, developing productivity, and enhancing the performance of the customs department.

• Ensure compliance with regulations, laws, and standards.

• Liaise with customs authorities regarding procedures and any changes in legislation or processes that may affect DHL or its customers.

• Build strong relationships with customs authorities to improve the capabilities and efficiency of customs processing.

• Support customers with solutions related to export controls, import licenses, and changes in customs legislation impacting trade.

• Conduct regular audits on customs processes to ensure compliance with global SOPs.

• Manage projects for all system upgrades related to updates in customs legislation.

• Provide coaching and feedback to all team members regarding their performance and development.

• Build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders connected to the customs department.

• Maintain a high level of compliance with customs procedures, in line with DHL Global SOP and EU customs regulations.

This is who you are

• You have completed a Bachelor’s degree;
• You have at least 5 to 10 years of relevant experience as a manager;
• Knowledge of operational processes at DHL Express and Customs activities;
• Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills;
• You are a connector, proactive and able to perform under pressure;
• You are a manager who motivates and inspires, particularly in managing the department;
• You are flexible and don’t mind working in a rotating schedule, as you prefer to be present with your team that works in 24-hour shifts;
• Excellent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
