About this vacancy

In this role, you’ll work on safety assessments for both assisted and fully automated vehicles used on public roads and in controlled environments. Your primary focus will be on ensuring that these vehicles meet strict safety standards through rigorous risk identification, testing, and analysis. Responsibilities will include performing hazard analyses, designing and executing safety tests, evaluating real-world safety data, and ensuring that vehicles meet both regulatory and industry safety requirements.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to key areas such as:

• Safety Case Development: Conducting risk assessments and ensuring safety-by-design, including methodologies like HARA, FTA, FMEA, and STPA.
• Safety Testing: Planning and performing tests, including regulatory and manufacturer-specific testing, in line with standards like Euro NCAP.
• Safety Analysis: Analyzing test data and real-world monitoring results to evaluate safety levels.
• Safety Assurance: Engaging in the full lifecycle of safety assurance, from initial design to in-service safety monitoring of automated vehicles.

What we expect from you

• A Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, data science, applied mathematics, or a related field relevant to safety assessment.
• Several years of experience in safety assessment, preferably within the automotive sector or a similar industry such as rail or aviation.
• Familiarity with safety cases and/or hazard and risk assessments (e.g., HARA) is advantageous.
• A proactive approach to learning and an ability to stay current with the latest developments in your field.
• Strong communication skills, enabling clear articulation of your work to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Proficiency in writing and presenting research findings in English, allowing you to author papers and present at conferences.
• Knowledge of Dutch is preferred, and a willingness to learn it is appreciated.
• A collaborative mindset, with experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with external partners.
