Job summary
Headquarters London District are the main headquarters for British Army units London and Windsor. It is responsible for all Regular units, Army Reserve units and Cadet Detachments. Headquarters London District is also responsible for leading and delivering London's ceremonial events. These include State Visits, The State Opening of Parliament, Trooping the Colour and various Beating Retreats at Horse Guards.
We are looking for a hands-on, motivated individual to take on this integral safety management role in a busy and highly dedicated team. As a Force Protection Officer, you will be the main safety link between the Headquarters and the London Army Units, which presents a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the safety and prosperity of the UK whilst building an exciting career in the Health and Safety Profession.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Duties include:
- Lead on LONDIST health and safety annual audit programme (ASEMSA). Ensure ASEMSA audits and advisory visits are undertaken, to monitor the standard of Force Protection implementation throughout LONDIST (OPCOM and RPo C). Monitor records of audits and carry out follow-up visits to units with observations once an audit is complete. Brief LONDIST HQ chain of command on unit issues.
- Be part of safety and environmental working groups on new and existing projects and lead on major and minor safety and environmental projects, briefing chain of command as necessary.
- Produce Force Protection reports including incidents/near misses to the Chain of Command for management review, manage weekly accident states, specifically on significant trends and risks not subject to adequate controls.
- Lead incident investigations as requested by Army Safety Centre or HQ LONDIST and assist units with lessons learn reports.
- Co-ordinate, prioritise, monitor all internal/external training for units within LONDIST. Liaise with external training providers. Assist in delivery of in-house training.
- Be the focal point for all non-infrastructure Sustainable Development across the district including the implementation and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems for Army Sites (EMSAS) within all LONDIST units in accordance with MOD Policy and the LONDIST Force Protection Action Plan.
- Possess strong administrative and communication skills will be required, as the successful candidate will act as Secretary to the Force Protection Committee, manage the shared mailbox and intranet page, and be responsible for the Army Information Asset register for the branch.
- Carry out HQ LONDIST monthly management checks, including first aid and fire equipment and infra issues, working with the building custodian and building fire officer.

- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively around the Department.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Proficient at using Microsoft 365 and work applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Power point.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
