Head of Curriculum Development Collaboration

The Head of Curriculum Development Collaboration provides effective leadership to a small team of curriculum and instruction design experts in K-12 learning and teaching, who collaborate in the curriculum related projects in the IB, create links to academic research and collaborations on related topics and successfully create networks for relevant research projects and grants submissions.
Collaborating with the wider Curriculum Development teams, Professional Development, Global Research and Assessment leadership, the position will ensure both practical and evidence informed decision making on innovation in our curriculum programmes design.
With a proactive focus the Curriculum Development collaboration group will identify areas of research and development that can strengthen our programs and add to the IB pedagogical principles. The aim of this group is to strengthen the link of IB’s programme and curriculum design with academic research and innovation in curriculum and instruction design.
Working in and advising on projects this group aims to align learning, teaching and assessment coherently within and across IB’s programmes for impactful learning and teaching.
This role is based in The Netherlands, The Hague. A relocation package will be part of the offer.
Permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: appr EUR 95.000-105,000.00 per annum

Key Accountabilities
Leadership in Effective and Coherent Learning, Teaching and Assessment
- Collaborate with Head of Capacity and Head of Assessment Design and Principles and Practices to ensure optimal assignment of staff to projects.
- Work with the team to identify the relevant research in curriculum and instruction science that will strengthen core pedagogical principles in IB’s curriculum programme development now and in the future and establish the academic connections to create support networks to evaluate and progress our curriculum development
- Collaborate with scholars to initiate relevant research and innovation projects, attract grants for research that are timely and aligned to the developments in IB’s programmes
- Collaborate with educational office colleagues to explore and incorporate emerging design framework, tools and technologies to advance curriculum design fit for learning and teaching now and in the future
- As a resource manager, support (senior) curriculum managers to effectively collaborate in projects, provide guidance on designing collaborations with both schools and academics and help ensure IB curriculum design principles can effectively and systematically be implemented in our programmes.
- Collaborate with scholars to initiate relevant research and innovation projects, attract grants for research that is timely and aligned to the developments in IB and publish to strengthen the profile of the IB as innovator and thought leader.
- Support the team to publish, start innovative projects and act as thought leaders and figure heads in their respective areas of expertise.
- Collaborate with Global Research and the Schools Office to identify relevant collaborations with academia and schools.
- Collaborate with the Education Office Leadership, refine the current ways of working to achieve agility and flexibility
- Evaluate the curriculum design framework, identify the areas of development that are crucial for future learning environments and proactively define relevant innovation strands supporting the development of future focused programmes.
- Work with the Head of Capacity and HR to identify development areas for our curriculum developers and co-create a professional development plan to strengthen core competencies
- Collaborate with the curriculum development team and Assessment colleagues to sponsor an annual symposium to engage experts and stakeholders in thought leadership on designing for good learning and teaching
- Function in the academic community, and as well-respected scholar
- Contribute to the strategy of the education office as part of the leadership team responsible for curriculum and instruction development.
- Where appropriate, develop and/or respond to proposals for strategic initiatives to support the IB’s strategy in defining learning and teaching
- Attract grants for innovation
- Responsible for the budget of the academic collaboration team
Knowledge and Experience
- A relevant Ph D qualification with a focus on curriculum design, educational psychology, learning science, or other related disciplines
- Proven ability to create networks between educational service organisation, academic researchers and schools to engage on R&D projects
- Have strong academic network as educational leader
- Ability to compete for grants in an applied academic context in which networks of schools, academics and educational service providers collaborate in proposals
- Strong evidence of professional impact with international (academic) recognition for expertise and leadership in learning science or curriculum design
- Can informally influence and lead teams and create effective collaborative working relationships
- Has a vision for the future of K12 education including the innovation trends in the field of international, holistic and/or digital education
- A good understanding of education professional services environment
- Functions as an academic authority
- Programme, curriculum and assessment design
- K-12 education background
- Experience in educational, developmental, behavioural research
- Takes responsibility for own actions and holds others to account to results
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at speaking in public with clarity, authority and confidence
- Proven ability to translate and adapt complex concepts into understandable, relevant, appropriate and compelling messages to different stakeholder groups
