Mō te tūranga | About the Role

As the Senior Adviser Media Relations you will liaise with media to help communicate what we do at Westpac. You’ll be at the forefront of translating complex information from within the bank into clear, engaging stories for media and other external stakeholders, ensuring swift, accurate, and impactful communication across various channels.

Your ability to craft compelling and concise content that resonates with diverse audiences will be essential. You’ll also provide a point of contact for initial media enquiries and identify appropriate Westpac NZ spokespeople as required.

This role is not only about responding to media needs; you’ll also proactively collaborate across departments to uncover and pitch stories that elevate Westpac NZ’s profile through media and social media. In this position, you’ll help shape the bank’s narrative and bring its successes to the spotlight.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

At least 2 years’ experience in journalism or a media-facing communications role.
Business acumen and strategic thinking ability.
Understanding of a large corporate environment, preferably from within the financial services industry.
Good understanding of the New Zealand media environment and strong relationships with a variety of media.
Advanced writing skills, and ability to understand complex financial, legal issues and to present them in an appropriate way to media.
Good working knowledge of social media.
Demonstrated ability to effectively operate and influence across a large organisation, including in conversation with senior employees.
Superior verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work effectively within a team.
Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritise.
