The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University Korea welcomes applications for a full-time position and Instructional Assistant Professor of Korean, starting in Fall 2025.

About the Position

This is a full-time, non-tenure track position, with renewal based on performance. There are opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts. Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate to teach Korean language at all levels, including courses designed for heritage speakers. The teaching load for this position is 12 credits per semester, with additional responsibilities in departmental and university service. Duties include developing new courses and curricula, engaging students in experiential learning opportunities, and holding regular office hours. As a full-time faculty member, the candidate will also be involved in student outreach and activities to support the growth of the Korean Studies program at George Mason University Korea.

Required Qualifications
Successful candidates must meet the following criteria:

• A Ph.D. or ABD status in Korean Linguistics/Language, Korean Applied Linguistics, Korean Language Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or a closely related field by the time of appointment, with a proven track record of excellence in teaching.
Native or near-native fluency in Korean.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who have:

• Taught all levels of Korean language courses and upper-level content-based courses in English at the college level.
• Experience with developing project-based and community-based curricula.
• Demonstrated commitment to providing students with experiential learning opportunities and engaging in outreach activities.
• An active interest in scholarly activities related to Korean language education and research-based, high-impact teaching practices.
• OPI Tester certification.
